Do Blood Moons Signify Joel 2?

Do the “Blood Moons” occurring in the spring and fall of 2014 and 2015 signal Christ’s 2nd Coming and the Day of the Lord?

Do these moons pertain to the heavenly signs of Joel 2?

“And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and awesome day of the Lord.” (Joel 2:30-31)

American Pastors, Mark Blitz and John Hagee, view these “Blood Moons” as significant because they occur on God’s feasts days found in Leviticus 23, and are connected with historic events associated with previous “Blood Moons.”

Using God’s Word as a guide, it can clearly be established whether or not these current “Blood Moons” are connected with Joel 2.

Jesus Christ prophesied in Matthew 24 about these same heavenly signs.

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” (Matt. 24:29)

Christ clearly states these heavenly signs will occur “Immediately after the tribulation.” Christ describes “the tribulation” in verse 21.

“For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.” (Matt. 24:21)

Understand, Christ is speaking of an event annuls of world history have never recorded. Notice how horrific “the tribulation” is going to be.

“And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved [alive]; . .” (Matt 24:22a)

What is “great tribulation?”

Primarily, it is the punishment of modern day descendants from the twelve tribes of ancient Israel. These descendants include the peoples of the United States, Britain and its commonwealth countries, Northwestern Europe and the state of Israel. “Great tribulation” is also called “the time of Jacob’s trouble”. (Jer. 30:4-7a) God states clearly His purpose for this punishment.

“For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of your iniquities, because your sins have increased. I have done these things to you.” (Jer. 30:14b, 15b)

How long will the “great tribulation” last? The prophet Daniel records for a period of time, times and half a time, which is equal to three and a half years. (Dan. 12:1, 6-7)

So has “great tribulation” begun? No, not yet!

Currently, we stand between Christ’s fulfilled prophecy of Matthew 24:14 and the start of “great tribulation.” When “great tribulation” begins it will be three and a half years before the events of Joel 2 appear in the skies.

These current “Blood Moons” will be past history by then.

Some clarification must be made concerning the timing of these “Blood Moons.”

Pastors Blitz and Hagee state these “Blood Moons” occur on the Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles, but a check of the Hebrew calendar in conjunction with the Bible shows the pastors are not entirely correct. It is important to understand God calculates a day from sunset to sunset. (Lev. 23:32) This understanding allows for accurately knowing when these moons will occur.

Few people realize the spring moons do not occur on the Passover (Lev. 23:5), but on the First Day of Unleavened Bread. (Lev. 23:6)

The 2nd moon, which recently occurred in the morning of October 8, 2014, did not happen on the Feast of Tabernacles, but actually took place twelve hours before sunset which is the start of the Feast. (Lev. 23:34) The 4th moon occurs in the evening of September 27, 2015 shortly after the Feast begins at sunset. Reference the chart below to validate these times.

Do the “Blood Moons” portend significant events for the future? History seems to indicate they do, but these current moons do not represent the events of Joel 2.
